‘Youth and Health through Ayurveda’

The thought that inspired us to continue on this journey, which we began under the guidance of Sri Ismail Gurukkal, the student of the well-known Kalaripayattu and Marma Chikitsa expert Kunji Gurukkal. Marma Chikitsa is a healing technique based on Marma (vital points) which evolved alongside Kalaripayattu, which is one of the most ancient forms of martial arts in the world. Both go hand in hand as Kalaripayattu practitioners are often prone to injuries. Ayurveda is a vital and integral part of the Kalari training, and helps the Kalari practitioners to treat themselves.

Ayurveda is a traditional healing methodology, passed down from generation to generation, its secrets held close to heart by the specialized few. Despite being an age-old tradition, Ayurveda still holds its own in this modern age when many advancements have been made in the field of medicine. Our inner self still craves to come back to Ayurveda, whose principles and concepts are dominated by the influence of medicine on the natural functioning of the body and mind.

Sri Ismail Gurukkal, a state level champion in the powerful combat technique of Kalaripayattu has been an ardent practitioner of Ayurveda from his youth. For long 20 years now, Sri Ismail Gurukkal has been teaching Kalaripayattu and practicing Ayurveda in the form of Marma Chikitsa, curing many from their ailments and illnesses and imparting his vast knowledge of the martial arts among passionate minds.

Sparsham that began as a humble establishment a decade back, under the name of KGM, has now flourished under the effort and wisdom imparted by its founders. This noble endeavour has been made possible with the support and knowledge lent by Dr.ShejinLija, who shares Sri Ismail Gurukkal’s zeal and passion for healing through Ayurveda. She has been a part of this journey for the last 8 years, practicing Ayurveda, Kalari and Marma Chikitsa alongside Sri Ismail Gurukkal.
